Thanks to JP, I found out that Nancy’s Landing closed. It was the fanciest place in town that I knew of and was a shock to me when I heard.
Their last day was September 29 and the new owners are already working on getting the Lobster Shack up and running. The new-england style restaurant will be an interesting addition to Waconia. I’m not a big seafood fan, but I’m already very intrigued with the idea of the Lobster Shack.
If you know more details, please do share. 🙂
We were able to attend a test night at Lola’s this week. As expected, the restaurant is very nice; unfortunately the food leaves a bit to be desired.
It is much like the sister restaurants O’Donovans and Jake O’Connors with the dark, wood decor, and a nautical theme. The layout and fireplace are homey and quite an upgrade from Nancy’s Landing. For Waconia, it’s downright FANCY (hell, they have logos on their napkins!). In fact I wonder if they know something about the demographics us long-time residents don’t: they have a $21 pizza and a $40 steak on the menu.
We sampled the pizza, artichoke dip, steak, chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, a salad and a dessert. I know they are just getting up and running so I can’t say anything too subjective – and please, judge for yourself – but the best part of our meal was the salad and the fries.
While we need new options and I love the city restauranteurs coming out to little ol’ Waconia, they need to up the ante on the cuisine for those prices. The view, bar, and decor are top notch. I know the service will get there in time. Give me a margarita on the deck and I’ll be smiling all summer. However, I’ll head up to Main Street for my actual dinner.
